Merry Christmas Sanctuary Inn Friends,

If you’ve been to Sanctuary Inn you know the gift that is to be hosted in that oasis on the mountains. I remember driving down the road, the tall trees looming against the roadway, the wind rustling the branches and leaves. As you turn into the driveway, pass the basketball court, the field, the dining hall, the inn, all the properties coming into view. After parking my car, I opened the door to the unmistakable Mt. Hood scent of trees, moss, and ferns. Crisp, musty, evergreens, with some blooming flowers thrown in; if you’ve smelled it, you know.

Sanctuary Inn was a beacon of rest, welcome, and love for me as a guest. A place I always looked forward to visiting for the exhale in my soul that takes place there. Now, as a member of the board I care even more for the sense of welcome and rest provided at the Inn.

I’ve been thinking at the contrast however of Jesus, our Immanuel, and his weary parents. They were tired from a long journey, and they sought rest and a place to sleep and were turned away (Lk. 2:7). Eventually they settled in with the animals. There our Savior was born and put in a lowly manger. How lonely and tired they must have been.

At Sanctuary Inn it’s a gift to provide a place of rest, to welcome those tired from a long journey, and to provide a place of peace because of the gift of our Prince of Peace. Thank you for being a part in allowing us to host and give rest and peace to so many guests this past year!

Today friends, on behalf of the staff and board of Sanctuary Inn, we pray you encounter a moment of Peace. May Immanuel, the Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) bless you this Christmas Season.

Merriest Christmas!
